If you’re looking to experience Venice off the beaten track, far from the tourist crowds and souvenir shops, this private walking tour through Dorsoduro is exactly what you need. Rich in local charm, art, and authentic Venetian life, Dorsoduro is one of the most fascinating yet overlooked areas of the city—and it holds some of Venice’s best-kept secrets.
Let me guide you on a journey through the hidden gems of Dorsoduro, where every bridge, alley, and square has a story to tell. As a local tour guide and art historian, I’ll share both the historical context and personal anecdotes that bring this neighborhood to life.
While most visitors flock to San Marco and Rialto, Dorsoduro offers a quieter, more intimate side of Venice. This district has long been a haven for artists, scholars, and Venetians who value peace, beauty, and authenticity. Here, you’ll find elegant palaces, art-filled churches, peaceful canals, and charming campi untouched by mass tourism.
Dorsoduro is also home to some of the city’s most important cultural institutions—including the Gallerie dell’Accademia and Peggy Guggenheim Collection—but this tour focuses on the less obvious, off-the-beaten-path treasures hidden between them.
During our walk, you’ll see a side of Venice most tourists never experience. This is not just a checklist of monuments—it’s a story-driven, immersive walk through the living layers of Venetian history and daily life.
Some of the highlights and hidden corners we may explore include:
Squero di San Trovaso: A traditional gondola workshop still in operation. Learn how these iconic boats are made and maintained—an essential part of Venice’s heritage.
Campo San Barnaba: A charming square with local cafes and a floating produce barge, featured in films like Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
The secret mask-maker’s courtyard: Tucked away from the main streets, this space connects to Venice’s centuries-old Carnival traditions.
The Zattere promenade: A peaceful walkway along the Giudecca Canal with panoramic views and a refreshing local atmosphere.
San Sebastiano Church: Often overlooked, this church is a true hidden gem with breathtaking works by Veronese and rich Renaissance decoration.
Local legends and mysterious symbols carved into the stones of bridges, walls, and wells—each with its own story waiting to be revealed.
And of course, throughout the tour, I’ll point out architectural curiosities, quiet gardens, artisan workshops, and daily scenes that capture the real spirit of Venice—details you’d miss without a local eye.
This is a private tour, so the pace and focus are entirely tailored to you. Whether you’re an art lover, a photography enthusiast, a romantic explorer, or just someone who wants to escape the crowds, this tour will show you Venice through a local lens.
I’ll also be happy to suggest local cafés or wine bars along the way if you’d like to pause for a spritz or espresso, just like Venetians do.
This tour is ideal for:
Travelers seeking authentic experiences
Visitors who have already seen the “musts” and want something deeper
Photographers and artists looking for inspiration
Families or couples wanting a quiet, engaging walk
Anyone curious about Venice off the beaten track
Whether it’s your first visit or your fifth, you’ll walk away with a new appreciation of Venice’s quieter side and a handful of stories most tourists never hear.

Lucia is a perfect storyteller and very kind person. Thanks to her I liked Venice much more.
Lucia was an amazing guide for this tour, very engaging and knowledgeable as she walks you down the less-traveled alleys of Venice exploring both history and modern life in the city. Lucia made the hours fly by with her humor and insight, and as a local she had plenty of recommendations and advice for everyone in our group. We can’t recommend this tour enough!
Lucia was OUTSTANDING! Her knowledge was second to none. She is clearly passionate about the landmarks she showed us. In all of our travels, I truly rank Lucia as one of our top tour guides. Thank you Lucia for everything!
For anyone who are tired of being part of the dense tourist crowds walking from Rialto bridge to Piazza San Marco and back I would strongly recommend taking a walking tour with Lucia in Dorsoduro. She is a very knowledgeable and extremely nice guide who showed us unique places in Venice without typical tourists traffic. It’s hard to believe but at some point, we found ourselves in completely empty streets and bridges in Venice which was a very special experience. It was tremendously interesting and very enjoyable experience.
High performance guide, lots of details during the visit. Very attentive to its audience. Even goes as far as to give us addresses outside the visit. Excellent!!
