Description

The Venice Jewish Ghetto Tour with Lucia

This is my favorite tour in Venice! See my reviews here . I am a guide trained and accredited by the Jewish Community of Venice and Rabbi.

The right mix between the history that everyone should remember, hidden symbols, charming areas off the beaten paths!

I am a licensed tour guide in Venice, specializing in providing in-depth, culturally rich experiences for visitors to this iconic city. With approval from the Venice Jewish Community and the Rabbi, I am one of the few guides certified to lead tours inside Venice’s synagogues, offering unique insights into the city’s Jewish heritage and history. My passion for Venice, combined with my deep respect for its history and culture, allows me to share a truly authentic and educational experience, whether you’re exploring the main sights or the hidden gems that only a local would know.

The Jewish Ghetto tour will show you a maze of streets and canals, you can find gondole and sandoli and very often painters sitting at their easels to capture the typical venetian light.  Everyone loves Venice, but once in Cannaregio you’ll fall for its personality, details and history.

Learn why and where the Serenissima forced to live Jewish residents under strict rules for centuries.

During the Jewish Ghetto of Venice tour I will show you the symbols of the three ghettos.  I’ll explain you the secrets of this magnificent area!

Furthermore,  during this Venice tour of Cannaregio I’ll show you highlights and hidden gems of the northern part of Venice.

And why not… if you want to add something more, let’s taste together a local traditional Jewish cake,  a good glass of prosecco wine or the best gelato in Venice!

Highlights of my Jewish ghetto tour in Venice:

  • Discover the origin of the word “ghetto” and try to speak a little bit of Venitian
  • You will learn the amazing history of this place and its special buildings called the Venetian skyscrapers
  • How looked like this area during the Serenissima Republic ?
  • How long Venice forced Jews to live segregated in the ghettos?
  • Why Venice created the 1st Jewish Ghetto of the world?
  • Let’s discuss about the WW2 in Venice
  • Let’s speak about the great people used to live in the area
  • Learn about the particular culture, habits and  traditions
  • Learn about the Jewish food and special recipes

Visit to the synagogues and the Jewish Museum are not included in the classic tour but they can be added on request (I have the licence to explain them)

Of course I will explain you everything about the opportunity to join the sinagogues tour. The museum run it everyday (not during the Jewish holidays like the Shabbat) I have the license to run tours inside the synagogues and the Jewish Museum. I am a guide trained and accredited by the Jewish Community of Venice and Rabbi. If you want to add the synagogues contact me, the tour must be longer or have a different meeting point to stay in the 2 hours

The tour of Jewish Ghetto in Venice and the magnificent Cannaregio  is perfect for you if: you are looking for something more than the classic Venice tour attractions!

An unusual stroll to discover all the secrets of the first Jewish Ghetto of the world – this is the Venice Jewish Ghetto tour with Lucia. Don't miss this this lesser-known part of Venice Lucia was great! We had a great time exploring and learning about the history of the ghetto and Lucia always kept it engaging and was quick to answer questions from those in the group and provide her personal experiences and recommendations. Our tour had a mixed group with some active in their Jewish communities back home and others with limited familiarity and Lucia I thought did a great job of making the tour interesting and informative for everyone. Highly recommend this tour

Lucia is the best private tour guide we have ever had! ott 2025 • In coppia Lucia toured us privately in Venice for the full day and was absolutely fantastic. We spent most of the day in the Jewish Ghetto, as we toured two synagogues and heard about the area’s rich history. We enjoyed a fabulous lunch at one of the two kosher restaurants. Lucia’s knowledge of history and Jewish culture is phenomenal, making this day so very special for my wife and I. She was professional, courteous, funny and so pleasant to be with!

Lucia was a fantastic guide to Cannaregio and the Jewish ghetto. She clearly loves her city and she is extremely knowledgeable. We felt like we were visiting the neighborhood of a friend, getting to meet the people who live and work in the neighborhood and experience a completely different—and quieter!—side of Venice. We learned a lot. Lucia even helped us discover the perfect gift to bring home to our daughter. We will come back to Venice, and we will book with her again. Grazie mille, Lucia! A dopo! Wonderful afternoon in Cannaregio!

Perfect amount of time and details. Lucia is a wonderful guide. She is able to explain with the perfect amount of detail, and allowed us to see so much and learn so much within our two hour time. We went with our six year old and five month old, and she managed with the children beautifully. We are very happy with our experience

Informative, entertaining and poignant This was my second tour with Lucia (the first was so good we just had to do another one). In this tour she guided us around the Jewish Ghettos explaining in a both entertaining but poignant way about the history of the place. She pointed out things that we would never have seen otherwise. Her enthusiasm for the place is infectious.
